Las Vegas Taxi Accident Lawyer

When two drivers get into an accident, they often try and point the finger at one another. But when you are the passenger in a taxicab, you know that you are blameless for any collision. Unfortunately, many people are injured in Las Vegas each year while sitting in the back of a cab. And they have a legal right to seek compensation for their injuries.

At Cameron Law, PLLC, our experienced Las Vegas taxi accident lawyers can review your case and advise you of your legal options. In many taxicab accident cases, the cab driver or their employer failed to follow certain state-mandated safety regulations, which in turn contributed to your accident. In other cases, the taxicab may have been operated safely but a third-party driver was reckless or negligent in some way. We can help you sort through the facts and determine who was responsible.

Who Will Pay for Your Injuries?

Nevada law regulates taxicab companies as “common carriers.” This means that much like buses and limousines, a cab operator must follow certain regulations when offering customers paid rides in-and-around Las Vegas. For example, a cab company must carry an insurance policy on each of its vehicles that provides a minimum of $250,000 per person or $500,000 per accident. Alternatively, a cab company can provide “security” of at least $500,000 as a form of self-insurance.

Obviously, such insurance or self-insurance protects passengers in the event the taxi driver or cab company was at-fault for an accident. And in fact, many accidents are the result of reckless driving by a cab driver. We have all seen this happen. Taxi pricing is based on a per-mile rate, which creates an incentive for the driver to complete a trip as quickly as possible so they can pick up their next fare. This often leads to speeding or aggressive driving that leads to a collision.

Even when the taxi driver is safe, other drivers on the Las Vegas streets are not. If your cab is hit by a drunk or distracted driver, you have a legal claim against that person and their insurance company for your injuries. Additionally, if your accident was the result of a defect in the maintenance of the cab itself, you may have a claim against the companies that manufactured the vehicle or a defective part.

In any personal injury case, you are entitled to seek economic and non-economic damages under Nevada law. This means the parties responsible for your taxi accident can be held responsible for your past, current, and even future medical bills. They can also be required to pay for your pain and suffering, emotional distress, and other intangible losses arising from the crash.
